Reel 1:
Segment 1 (silent): San Jose City Council meeting, at which Louis Solari and Robert Weisch debate whether City should buy San Jose Water Works. Council also approved feasibility study for proposed sports arena, and accepted for study architectural designs for a new community theater. The theater plans are seen on large display boards lined up on easels for viewing.
Segment 2 (sound): Oregon Congresswoman Edith Greene interviewed on Stanford University campus about Job Corps and Head Start programs; says they are costing more than they should without being effective. Greene says they are not reaching the tremendous numbers that need to be reached and alternatives need to be explored such as CC camps, Job Corps, trade courses, vocational courses at the high school level done through schools
Segment 3 (silent): Last day to register to vote in the June 7th primary. League of Women Voters signed up workers in half a dozen industrial plants in the Valley. Shots of a sign saying "You may register here," lines of people waiting to sit at tables and fill out required forms to register.
Segment 4 (silent): San Jose State Spartans open spring football practice, including quarterback Danny Holman. Shots of players practicing on field.
Reel 2:
Segment 1 (sound): Dennis Rowedder interviews Santa Cruz police chief Gino Pini about how they handled the influx of college students at Easter on the Santa Cruz beaches. Pini says they weren't worried about any ugly situations and handled the situation with close attention.
Segment 2 (silent): Pickets at FMC in San Jose as machinists union strike goes into second week. Strikers standing outside entrance, wearing "Picket" sashes, sitting in lawn chairs, chatting.
Segment 3 (sound): Interview with 81-year old Norman Thomas of the American Socialist Party after his lecture at Stanford University. He comments on the Vietnam War, saying we're sending conscripted men to fight a war for people who don't want us there, we are unpopular, and the situation is even more difficult than it was before. The question becomes how do we get out and how soon, and that depends on whether we can pull together a successful government.
